Keep Smiling with Dental Implants

A bold, beautiful smile is universally appealing. It draws people into your space, making you appear warm, friendly — and even younger! A full and vibrant smile is not only contagious, but it also makes you look successful and approachable — both with potential business contacts and romantic interests. If missing teeth are stopping you from showing your pearly whites with confidence, let us help you get back to smiling again with dental implants. Dental implants act as replacements for missing natural teeth, mimicking both their appearance (as they are matched in color and size to surrounding teeth) and function, allowing you to smile, chew and speak with ease.

Find Out if You’re a Candidate for Dental Implants

If you have one or more missing teeth, dental implants can help you to achieve a beautiful smile by fixing these issues:

  • Embarrassment because of missing teeth
  • Difficulty chewing, or finding chewing uncomfortable
  • Slurred or otherwise distorted speech
  • “Collapsed” looking face due to jawbone loss caused by missing teeth

The Basics of Dental Implant Placement

To understand how a dental implant is placed in the mouth, let’s begin with a simple explanation of its structure. A dental implant consists of a titanium post or screw, an abutment (i.e., a connector piece attached to the top of the post/screw) and an artificial tooth that sits on top of the gums.

Placing a dental implant is a process typically performed over two dental visits. In the first visit, the implant post will be surgically placed in your jawbone. Once in place, the post will need to heal and integrate with your jawbone, a process that usually takes two or more months. In your next visit to the dentist, the abutment and crown will be placed on the implant post. This is done by exposing the surface of the implant post and screwing the abutment and crown onto the top. If needed, adjustments to the size and color of the replacement tooth are made during this visit.

Dental implants can also be used to replace multiple missing teeth. Several implant posts can be placed to support a dental bridge or even a full arch of teeth (e.g., a set of dentures).
